Hi! We’re New Here!

Patients in Indiana and Michigan have a new opportunity to address their intimate health needs with a midwife run practice. Candescent Health and Wellness has opened their doors to provider care to clients desiring the services of a nurse midwife. Specializing in GYN Care, menopause management, Sexuality counseling and Education, Queer Inclusive and LGBT+ Affirming care, Candescent Health and wellness desires to help you optimize your care in a comfortable environment close to home.

Founded by Claire Walker, a Certified Nurse Midwife, sexuality counselor and educator and a healthcare provider who was quickly becoming disenchanted with the direction corporate healthcare in America was headed. Candescent Health provides gynecologic care and sexuality counseling to individuals across the spectrum of life, and is committed to enhancing wellness and empowering individuals to make educated decisions regarding their health. With services including well body care, well woman exams, GYN care, screening for sexuality transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV),  Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) and others, as well as addressing concerns related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and non-traditional partnerships- Candescent Health and Wellness is here to provide compassionate and comprehensive care.

For health related concerns and diagnosis which are beyond the scope of a Nurse Midwife, Claire works closely with a network of physicians and advanced practice providers to ensure your care is provided by the best prepared medical provider.

Claire received her Bachelor's Degree from Elmhurst College, and her Masters degree from Frontier Nursing University. She has additional studies from University of Michigan in sexuality counseling and education. Claire is a Health at Every Size provider, and understands that body size does not dictate health status.

Prior to starting Candescent Health and Wellness, Claire worked as a full-scope Nurse Midwife, Labor and Delivery Nurse, and Intensive Care Unit Nurse. She is an active member of International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH), North American Menopause Society (NAMS), American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM), Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH), and American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). She is pursuing a fellowship in sexual medicine.
